to developing news in the north bay. a fatal crash has shut down one lane of highway 101 south to petaluma. tara moriarty is live near the marin-sonoma border county line. >> reporter: the driver of the truck that crashed has died. behind me you can see it's down there in the ditch. it's difficult to see the actual vehicle. we are waiting for the coroner to identify her so her family can be properly notified first and the coroner just arrived in the past five minutes. the chp says around 2:15 this morning they received a 911 call from a passenger inside that car who had been injured. we are just north of novato, south of petaluma on a very dangerous stretch of roadway. the woman was driving northbound on 101 when she drifted into the center divider for some reason. >> she may have drifted off the roadway in an attempt to over correct causing the vehicle to over tush and into the drainage ditch. we don't know if alcohol was a factor if she had fallen asleep. >> reporter: the woman was pronounced dead on the scene. we understand she is 31 years old. out of petaluma. three other passengers were in

, absolutely. kauai a racing legacy here in northern california. in fact, we are here at the petaluma speedway where the johnson family spent many weekend racing their winged sprint cars. the family now is in mourning over a terrible weekend racing tragedy. the johnson family's muffler shot is a growing memorial to the 14-year-old marcus johnson. he was one of two people killed on saturday by an out of the control race car at a speed p way north of sacramento. the was war driven by husband own cousin who attended petaluma high school. the two were as close as brothers and an investigation into the crash is now underway but the boy's grandfather says that the steering wheel on the car may have come loose. >> it clipped. we have not analyzed the car yet. it has been impounded by the sheriff in marysville. we will get the car back and analyze it but the steering wheel either came off or the shaft broke. >> marcus would have been 15 and chase will be 18 but they were really, really close, a close knit family. couldn't have a better family. >> the family raced the winged sprint cars on circuits acr

and the driver is a sonoma county teenager. >> we are live outside petaluma high school where the teen goes to school. alex. >> we lost alex's shot right there. there he is. >> reporter: the 17-year-old driver involved in the crash is a senior here. and despite his young age, he has quite a bit of race experience. according to his websites. chase johnson is racing since he is five years old. colleagues say he knows what he is doing out there. something went wrong when he was doing practice laps at the marysville raceway. his car lost control and two people were killed and track announcer said one was johnson's 14-year-old cousin and another 68-year-old man who owned several cars in the race. johnson, for what where reason, had trouble making the turn. >> he was trying to make the corner. he didn't make the corner and went flying out the exit. started tumbling. and struck two people and a quad. >> reporter: now, the track owner said johnson was able to walk away from the crash unhurt. the cause of the accident is still being investigated this morning. he was going about 90 miles an hour when

:00 last night on the large property on crane canyon road near petaluma road. the flames destroyed a big barn and threatened living quarters. two families were displaced by the fire along with 65 horses kept in the site. firefighters from several agencies remained on the property over night. >> an arsonist is suspected of igniting a brush fire in the east bay. this fire started at 7:30 last night off highway 4 in martinez. witnesses reported seeing a man with a flashlight pulling some kind of -- pouring some kind of lighter fluid in the area. >> jewelry box from the oakland museum is back where it belongs after being stolen. oakland police arrested this man who may also be connected to a november 12 break in at the museum when three pistols and several gold nuggets were stolen. they have not been recovered. the gold and jewelry box was then off yesterday, it is worth $800,000. it was stolen on january 7. police say that the burglar snuck in the museum through a locked door. the museum has made security changes. >> i didn't thing we would ever see that again. >> how do you sell something

the track this weekend hitting and killing two people. it happened on saturday. the petaluma boy, the victims his 14-year-old cousin and the 68-year-old owner of the racecar. she spoke with members of the family just trying to come to grips with this tragedy. >> reporter: i had a chance to talk to the boy's grandfather today. it was just last october when this family was celebrating at the petaluma speedway when chase won a championship title. tonight chase's racing has left that family in mourning. >> they call me on the phone that afternoon and said something terrible happened. marcus is dead. >> reporter: bob johnson describes how he learned that his 14-year-old grand son was dead. the sprint car driven by his 17-year-old cousin, chase johnson, spun out of control. >> marcus got killed by chase. it is unbelievable. >> reporter: what is especially tough, that marcus got killed by a sport that has defined his family for four generations. his great grandfather started racing in the 50s and every grand son inherited the same passion. young marcus spent nearly all of his free time
were from petaluma. a big rig driver said he choked on his food and passed out and then hit three cars with deadly consequences. the couple was remembered tonight by a north bay buddhist community where they were very involved. cornell bernard is live from the santa rosa temple tonight with the story. it sounds like they were remarkable people, cornell. >> yes, indeed, dan. the buddhist community in santa rosa is in mourning. at this temple they are grieving the loss of two beloved members. dozens of mourners are gathering at the buddhist temple where the 76-year-old and his 74 creerld creerld ---year-old wife worshiped daily. they were more than parishioners here. they founded the temple 11 years ago and their loss is unimaginable. >> i feel like his work is not done here. there is much more. he needs to be with us to help us. >> the couple was killed in a fiery crash near davis when a big rig lost control on interstate 80 and crashed through the center guardrail hitting the bmw. the chp says the big rig driver claims he choked on some food and passed out at the wheel. a small flower

. an accident now with reports in the petaluma area, southbound 101, and otherwise, we have road work and southbound 101 by the village mall, left lane is blocked with the road work on the golden gate bridge has just been cleared so it is looking good there. kristen and eric? >> san bruno woman is reunited with her beloved pet while police consider criminal charges against the person who took him. she got archie back after riding bart with her dog and fell asleep and someone snatched this dog. a tip led police to a house and to the dog. the dog was trained to help her deal with anxiety from a plane crash she survived as a child. >> i was sobbing. i was happy. i have been holding him. it is a miracle. >> police identified the dog through a microchip. criminal charges are pending in the case. >> in ohio, a vet just doing her job brought a deer back to life and now a decade later she has a friend for life. the woman named the deer dilly, and did not intend to make the dire a pet but when the farm-raised doe was nursed back to health and did not like being in the barn with the horses, she
